Builders merchants Elliotts has joined forces with Tap It Brewing Co to launch an exclusive pale ale in time for tomorrow's International Brewing Day.
Following in the footsteps of their founder Thomas Elliott, who owned a brewery and four pubs in Southampton in the 1870s, the firm has gone back to create the beer to give a final toast to its 175th anniversary celebrations.
Tom Elliott, managing director of Elliotts, said: “My ancestor knew that building was thirsty work, so we wanted go back to our heritage and brew a beer with a modern-day twist. Partnering with Tap It Brewing Co was a natural fit as they’re a stone’s throw away from us. Plus, they’re on a mission to make exceptional beer!”
Rob Colmer, Tap It's head brewer, added: “It’s been great to work with Elliotts. We had a couple of initial taste tests at our tap room and together we agreed on a flavour profile that would work for them. We’ve brewed a unique recipe that’s refreshing, dry, full of citrus flavours and perfect for summer.”
All 310 members of Elliotts staff will get their hands on two bottles of Elliotts 175 pale ale presented in a special-branded box.
The limited edition pale ale will not be available to buy but the firm is giving away five cases to the public on its website.
Elliotts began 175th anniversary celebrations last October since when the firm has recreated a horse and cart delivery, filmed their fleet of 54 lorries with a drone.
During anniversary year Elliotts was crowned Family Business of the Year (South-East) at the National Family Business Awards 2018.
The ceremony, which took place earlier this month at Wembley Stadium, saw hundreds of family businesses come together from across the country.
Chairman, Stuart Mason-Elliott, was also presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award for his commitment to the building industry and his charitable efforts.
Stuart, a passionate cyclist, started Challenge Adventure Charities in 1996 which has raised more than £4million for numerous charities as well as getting hundreds of people hooked on cycling.
Stuart said: “It’s a great honour to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award. As the fifth generation of the Elliotts family I’m really proud of how our materials and advice have helped build the South Coast."
